The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an international environmental treaty established to address the issue of climate change. The main goal of the UNFCCC is to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere to prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system.
- It was adopted in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro
- It entered into force in 1994
- The treaty provides a framework for negotiating specific international treaties, called "protocols" or "agreements," that may set binding limits on greenhouse gases.

The Federal Sustainability Plan, initiated by President Biden through Executive Order 14057 in December 2021, aims to significantly:
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- Catalyze clean energy industries and jobs in the United States
This comprehensive plan is aligned with the broader goal of:
- Reducing U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 50-52% from 2005 levels by 2030
- Achieving net-zero emissions by 2050
